Dr. Hoover's talk was an exciting experience for our Civil and Environmental Engineering audience. Our group was intrigued by Dr. Hoover's analyses and perspectives on environmental justice, vulnerability, and green stormwater infrastructure. Her discussion of contextualized ecosystem services provided by green infrastructure showed how motivations and siting decisions varied across cities in the U.S. in important ways.

After Dr. Hoover read and listened to my proposal ideas, I expressed that I did not feel confident proposing a project that resonated with my lived experiences in environmental spaces as a Black woman. Dr. Hoover validated my experiences. Not only did she coach me, but she also made sure that my research questions were novel, feasible, and relevant. As an environmental justice expert, Dr. Hoover has a vast knowledge of the literature and provided me with timely and relevant references. She also has written numerous successful grant proposals and provided technical guidance on the flow and organization of the proposal. I was awarded this grant, and Dr. Hoover’s guidance was key to my success.
